DESCRIPTION AND METHODOLOGIES

Broadening participation and recruitment is a priority for Halmstad University, which has three crucial goals:
1- Supporting a heterogenic student-staff-audience population by increasing awareness and developing internal discussion on equality issues.
2- Attracting a broader range of applicants through activities in secondary schools and communication.
3- Admitting a broader range of applicants promoting new selection processes and skills for staff.

Activities
Many activities do not appear embedded in the educational programs because of their “project” nature. They depend on specific integration strategies for prioritizing broadening recruitment/widening participation within the Halmstad University.
The Student Union is taking care of housing for all international students and also for refugee students. The webpage of the Student Union is at the following link: https://www.karen.hh.se/en/.
Courses for professional development are offered by a special department: the University Pedagogical Centre.
Department of Student Support offers many social activities and nonformal education in a program for Health and study support.
The process - Recognition of studies follows the law, rules and regulation from the Swedish Ministry of Education.

RESULTS AND IMPACT

The university is holding a structure for planning, implementation and follow-up and yearly issue an analysis/summary and communication plan for the statistical compilations, finished by a common planning/action/follow-up cycle to complement and coincide with the statistical compilations.
A student barometer is measuring the outcome of all activities, every year. An early warning system is in place for early detection of risk for drop-outs.
In the recognition process we struggle against frauds and subjectivism in assessments and decisions.
A regional collaboration called South &West Sweden universities is established for better coordination in order to secure legality and fairness.
