BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANISATION
The University of Naples "Parthenope" was established following a request in 1919 by Vice Admiral Leonardi Cattolica, the founder of the University - the Royal Institute of Encouragement of Naples promoted with the Government the establishment in Naples of a higher centre of culture in which the sea would be "studied as it is, as it produces and as a means of exchange" and which, alongside the development of scientific culture, would prepare minds for the "conscious exploitation of economic problems relating to the sea".
