Things you could do to help refugees as a member of a University Association
  1. Do your research about what your University is offering. Each EU Member State is largely responsible for its own education and training systems and its content of teaching programmes (curricula). <https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/documents/3217494/5786237/KS-HA-14-001-03-EN.PDF/43efce65-4b6c-4105-8c93-a6fce178c5ee>. UNHCR and civil society organizations identified major gaps in several EU+ countries, especially in terms of access to housing, health care and education for children and youth. <https://www.easo.europa.eu/asylum-report-2020/77-reception-applicants-international-protection>. In federal countries, like Germany, legal provisions on access to education for newly arrived refugee and migrant children may also greatly vary from one region to another. https://www.unhcr.org/neu/wp-content/uploads/sites/15/2019/09/Access-to-education-europe-19.pdf
  2. Organize a campaign
  3. Discuss with your fellow students about the needs of refugees.
  4. Ask refugees about their needs. Despite the guidelines and the bibliography reality often differs from the papers. Every country has different guidelines and requirements regarding the admission procedure. A good start might be the Refugees Welcome Map, where you can have a general insight of what initiatives exist across Europe.
  5. Organize informative sessions throughout the year with the help of student associations.
  6. Networking: Make a list of Academics and people working at Universities that have knowledge on the topic or might be interested in the topic.
