DESCRIPTION AND METHODOLOGIES

The Tartu University Centre of Ethics, in cooperation with the Estonian Refugee Council, has created an interactive game covering 12 situations that are applicable to refugees and migration in general. The game - Discovering Values -, is designed as a methodical instrument to facilitate discussions on values among pupils, to strengthen their self-reflection and debating skills, and to further development their empathy and functional reading competences.

The basis for situations on refugees and migrants are real life events that were gathered with the help of individuals and various organisations dealing with refugees. These real-life situations contain moral dilemmas and provide a set of possible actions. Participants must choose a suitable one and justify it before fellow team members. The interactive game therefore encourages critical and independent thinking, assessment of situations through various perspectives and development of personal opinions, as well as the ability to engage in a dialogue with others. The long-term goal is to facilitate the integration of young foreigners and dialogue between different groups of people, including ethnic minorities and refugees.
