DESCRIPTION AND METHODOLOGIES

The University of Macedonia, received permission to train refugees in the prefecture of Thessaloniki, in the use of the electronic language educational platform OLS (Online Linguistic Support). It offered to 953 refugees the opportunity to learn a new foreign language.

Refugees participated in the program, regardless of their age, using their computers / laptops / mobiles / tablets in order to participate.

Refugees were asked to choose between twelve languages ​​and declared their choice. By this way, they were trained and practiced by taking relevant tests. The available languages ​were Greek, English, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Czech, Danish, Portuguese, and Swedish.

The courses were held at the amphitheaters of the university, as well as at the refugee camps, with the help of 39 volunteers - "operators", who were in the refugee camps and helped those who needed extra support regarding the use of the platform.

RESULTS AND IMPACT

Refugees chose between twelve languages ​​and declare their preference, and they were trained and practiced by taking relevant tests. The languages ​​they could choose from were Greek, English, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Czech, Danish, Portuguese, and Swedish.

The initiative resulted in the training of 953 refugees, who were successfully trained in the Online Linguistic Support Platform, having improved their communication and language skills.
