DESCRIPTION AND METHODOLOGIES

The Sanctuary Scholarships 2020 are attributed to asylum seekers or refugees who a) are not eligible for the state Free Fees scheme, SUSI grants and/or the state pilot support scheme; b) meet the academic eligibility criteria for their chosen UCC degree course through the CAO application process; c) are living in the Republic of Ireland and d) are able to live in commuting distance to Cork during the course of their studies.

The scheme is targeted at people who have not had the opportunity to study at (or complete) undergraduate education and does not include accommodation support.

RESULTS AND IMPACT

In both 2018 & 2019 as part of the UCC Sanctuary Scholarships 7 students were awarded scholarships covering full fees for their undergraduate degree programmes along with additional support bursaries initiative.
