DESCRIPTION AND METHODOLOGIES

West University of Timisoara, Romania (https://ri.uvt.ro/?lang=en), accepted as students several refugees, from Afghanistan Syria, Iraq and Nigeria. In October 2019, an agreement has been signed between the University and the UNHCR office in Romania to cooperate in welcoming and supporting refugee students
From university’s own resources a scholarship system, the first of this kind in any University in South-Eastern Europe, was established. University provides free accommodation in the campus and a small financial allowance to refugee students. The first scholarship was provided in October 2019 to a female refugee student from Afghanistan. Additional support will be provided during the University year if needed.

RESULTS AND IMPACT

Positive impact on the University community. West University of Timisoara is also encouraging other Universities in Romania and the region to proceed in a similar way.
