DESCRIPTION AND METHODOLOGIES

The initiative is part of a Swedish national project on the validation of prior learning, whose aim is facilitating the access of foreign students to Swedish universities by shortening their academic trainings and making them ready to enter the Swedish labour market.

Activities
We developed our internal processes for validation of the students’ prior learning, which would make it easier for students to enter courses of interest at SLU. In your application you describe the skills and competencies that allow you to fulfil the eligibility requirements. Your application should be supported by relevant documentation. If you are found not to be eligible, you have the right to appeal this decision. A recognition of prior learning does not necessarily mean that you will be offered a study place. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of study places on a course or a programme, the applicants will have to compete for a place in a selection based on their merit rating.

RESULTS AND IMPACT

The validation project was not very successful. We developed and improved our internal processes a lot, but not many students apply for validation of their prior learning. It seems to be a matter of reaching out with the information that validation is a possibility.
