Description

The Multiplier Event "Together: Ação pela Inclusão" was held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra on 26 January 2022, from 9.30am to 1pm, in Coimbra, Portugal. The event focused on the presentation of the Together project and its results, as well as on the good practices carried out by different organisations that have been developing essential means and actions for inclusion. It was attended by 31 participants, including Higher Education staff, representatives of the third sector, policy makers in the field of Higher Education, lecturers, students, refugee, among others.

The reception of the participants started at 9.30am, followed by the opening session, which included a brief introduction of POSCOHR and its members. Right after that, the Erasmus+ project Together - Innovative European Learning Path to Facilitate the Access of Refugees to Higher Education was presented, as well as its achievements.

The aims and target groups of the project were announced, as well as the different functionalities of its website. Concerning the 3 Intellectual Outputs – the Refugees Welcome Map, Training Package and Guidelines – its objectives and contents were explained and described, which contributed to the participants' awareness of its usefulness and impact on the inclusion of refugees (and other beneficiaries of international protection) in Higher Education institutions. As a result, some of the participants evaluated the 3 outputs by completing questionnaires and testimonials – the Testing Activity – in order to assess whether the project and its outcomes meet the expectations and needs of its target groups.

Afterwards, different speakers shared their experience and the work developed in their organisations. We had the presence of the “Projeto Mediadores Municipais Interculturais”, which explained its activities and its central role in the inclusion of the most vulnerable populations. After the coffee break, we counted with the participation of the “Associação Novo Olhar”, whose objective is to promote the social inclusion of groups with higher levels of social fragility, and also the association “AKTO – Direitos Humanos e Democracia”. Lastly, through a videoconference transmission from the Mavrovouni Refugee Camp in Lesbos, Greece, a member of “Fenix Humanitarian Legal Aid” introduced the work undertaken by the NGO in the support provided to asylum seekers and refugees. The event finished with the closing session, held by the POSCOHR team.

The Multiplier Event was a success and the feedback quite positive. The invited speakers did an excellent job in presenting their work, which enabled a sharing and exchange of experiences and knowledge among all. Through this meeting, the participants got to know the project and the results produced better, thus contributing to its dissemination and exploitation, and also helped to raise awareness about their social responsibility in this inclusion process. Moreover, everyone understood the huge importance of the different Intellectual Outputs as useful, valuable and significant tools for the inclusion of refugees and other beneficiaries of international protection in Higher Education institutions.
