BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANISATION
Siena Italian Studies (SIS) is a private organization operating in the field of second language teaching and intercultural learning/research since 2004. It provides study abroad opportunities for foreign undergrad and grad students who come to Italy to learn the language, immerse in the local culture, attend content courses and provide service in the community. All students who come to Siena Italian Studies are required to participate in service projects since Siena Italian Studies has been a real pioneer in the implementation of the service-learning pedagogy in Italy from its very first foundation. In light of all this and in order to provide students with the possibility to acquire global competence, in the last few years Siena Italian studies has developed multi-destination programs where students spend the first part of the semester in Siena taking academic courses and the last eight weeks in Brussels (Belgium) where they intern at a Eu organization or provide service to the community through several associations or in Yaoundè (Cameroon) where students continue their service-learning path through SIS local community service partners. The areas of activities carried out by Siena Italian Studies include: second language education, delivery of academic courses in the field of humanities, social sciences, business and sciences, service-learning courses, volunteerism, promotion of education quality and equality, promotion of Italian language and culture, fostering of intercultural competence, developing awareness for human rights, fostering democracy and democratic competences, social responsibility and civic mindedness.
